Self-Regulation: A Day Retreat

for Positive Change

Treat yourself to a relaxing and healing Day-Retreat

28th April 2024, 11:00-17:00, South Kensington, London

Know your Emotions Wheel inside out

Crafted by the Akanista creative team to help you navigate your emotional landscape, this wheel offers a visual representation of various emotions, allowing you to expand your emotional awareness beyond simple binaries like “good” and “bad,” or “happy” and “angry.”

We encourage you to take a moment a couple of times each day to glance at this wheel and acknowledge what you’re feeling. Simply observing and naming your emotions can be a powerful first step in self-regulation. Remember the adage, “Name it to tame it, feel it to heal it.”

By recognizing the breadth of emotions you experience, you lay the foundation for deeper emotional understanding. As you delve into this awareness, we’re here to offer guidance on your journey.

What research shows about emotional regulation

Research by Adrian et al. (2011) and Bai et al. (2016) show that effective emotional regulation predicts better friendships, signalling improved expression, understanding, and appropriate responses.

Emotional self-regulation is vital, involving understanding and managing emotions. It helps adapt to the environment, align with goals, and boost mental well-being. Success in emotional self-regulation is tied to gaining independence, developing self-esteem, and crucially adjusting socially and academically throughout life.

"I had the privilege and honour to attend a Mindfulness Meditation retreat organised by Akanista. The hosts, Nitima and Karuna, are genuinely the nicest people I have the pleasure to meet. They will go out of their way to make sure you get the most out of your time at the retreat and will do whatever it takes to make your feel comfortable. This retreat was a life changing experience for me personally! If I could, I'd give 10 out of 10 to Akanista for this amazing retreat, and would highly recommend it to everyone."
